Stereoviews and Cultural Double Vision

Everett L. Fly, 2014 National Humanities Medalist, delivers an illustrated presentation referencing specific images from our fall exhibition, Destino San Antonio, that show the presence of African Americans everywhere from the city’s plazas to the famed “Flower Parade.” The appearance of blacks in such prominent photographs documents the complex and contradictory nature of racially segregated life in late nineteenth-century San Antonio. The city’s unique cultural landscape serves as subtext to expose legacies that have been erased, ignored, and hidden in plain view. Free for Briscoe Members | $10 non-members
